Death is something that affects all human beings, no matter their culture, ethnic background, political or economic importance. So, most religous traditions have important rituals to help members cope with and interpret the meaning of death. In the Christian tradition it is also used metaphorically to describe followers of Jesus as “dead to sin”.

This sign is originally from the Irish Sign Language which the Dominican Sisters brought with them when they started their School for the Deaf in Waratah (suburb of Newcastle, NSW).
