Church services often involve a kind of dialogue between a minister and the congregation. The minister might give a formal greeting (e.g., “the Lord be with you”) or read from the bible, and the congregation make a response. In answer to the greeting they may say “And with your spirit”, or after a bible reading their response might be either in song or simply spoken words.
